A Houston restaurant company that started out with a popular, acclaimed smokehouse is having another growth spurt. Sambrooks Management Company is opening Andiron, a new steakhouse that will be located at 3201 Allen Parkway. The hospitality company owns several popular spots known for meaty feasts, including The Pit Room, The Patio at The Pit Room, Candente and 1751 Sea & Bar

The latest addition to the roster is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2022 in the historic Star Engraving Company building that was previously home to the Houston Children’s Museum and, most recently, Stages Theater. The iconic Mediterranean revival-style structure is being restored and developed by Radom Capital, the firm behind such projects as Heights Mercantile and M-K-T.

Andiron will offer guests a variety of both smoked and wood-fired dishes, similar to those at other Sambrooks Management Company restaurants. “This is a passion project for our team — we are excited to bring together all we do well in what will be one of the most exciting dining spaces in Houston. We will be combining our skills in smoking and wood-fire grilling from The Pit Room and Candente with our chef-driven experience from 1751 Sea & Bar,” said Michael Sambrooks, owner of Sambrooks Management, in a company statement.

Though Andiron’s full menu is still a mystery, the steakhouse’s live-fire concept hints at a rich variety of meat dishes. Sambrooks’ goal is to incorporate both modern and traditional techniques into the steakhouse experience. The menu will offer classic steakhouse dishes alongside more adventurous options in a small-plate progressive dining experience. In addition, the press release states that Andiron “plans to utilize the highest-quality ingredients in every dish.”

The new steakhouse’s interior and patio are being designed by AvroKO, a design firm from New York, in partnership with local Houston architect Kevin Tietz of Philip Ewald Architecture. In keeping with the building’s rich architecture and history (it was built in 1930), Andiron will be decked out in wooden trim, classic light fixtures and deep green colors. It will feature a 4,500 square-foot interior space with seating for up to 110 diners in the main dining room, lounge and bar, and private dining room. The restaurant’s covered patio will have seating for up to 75 guests and its own outdoor bar and lounge.

Andiron is set to open in the first quarter of 2022 across from Stages Theatre’s new home, The Gordy, sharing the 300-car parking garage. While Andiron has not yet announced its operating hours, it is likely that the steakhouse will follow other Sambrooks Management Company restaurants and offer lunch and dinner.
