Costco Just Put a Purchase Limit on These Popular Grocery Items - Eat This Not That - Eat This, Not That

America's largest grocery warehouse chain is a busy place at the moment as shoppers are stocking up on back-to-school items and kitchen essentials as the number of COVID-19 cases go up again. There are already a few shortages to note, but Costco is now placing product limits on several items in order to keep stock in check.

This rule is one we all heard about when the pandemic began and the supply of toilet paper and disinfecting wipes was out of control, but this time there are hundreds of items on the current product limitations list thanks to the Member's Only Savings event taking place right now and ends on Aug. 29. Below are a few notable ones.

(And before your next trip to the warehouse near you, here are the Popular Costco Foods That Are Making You Gain Weight, Say Dietitians.)

Members recently spotted signs detailing a water shortage in Costco warehouses. "We are currently out of water," one sign reads. "There is not yet an ETA for our next delivery. We apologize for the inconvenience."

Another says each customer can only purchase five cases of any brand during their trip. While the reasoning behind the issue isn't known as Costco declined to comment on it, some members say it is because of missed deliveries and a Kirkland water bottling plant shut down.

One pack of these protein shakes contains 18—for a grand total of 540 grams of protein. But should you need more, a purchase limit of four per trip is in place, and that includes both in-warehouse and online purchases.

A Reddit user noted the limit on the shakes, which are currently $7 off until Aug. 29. It isn't rare for Costco to place such a restriction on sale items so that every member can take advantage of the deal. However, some have a few tricks up their sleeves, as they say in the subsequent thread.

"Generally it's a limit per store visit/transaction. If you wanted you could go put your 4 in your car, come back in and get 4 more the same day," one said. "Since there's a chance some of the policies have changed, you'll always have the option to double check you're getting the sale price before you pay, especially if using the self checkout."

Another noted a flaw in this plan, though. "Actually it's limit per membership for the duration of the promo. If you go back in and get a few more they probably won't make a fuss, but if it's frequent enough that they remember you then the policy may be enforced," they said.

In the end, it's best to make sure the purchases are spread out if you do decide to take advantage of the deal more than once.

Like the protein shakes, the box of almost 200 Kirkland Signature Diapers is on sale for $9 off until Aug. 29, but has a product limit. Only two can be purchased at a time. Reddit user @boilerup35 noticed this in early August and mentioned that they want to stock up until the next sale, especially when shipping is free, and would rather not go to the warehouse multiple times.

However, another user says they tried to buy two boxes again, and the discount was removed. So it seems like the best bet to get more than the limit is to go to the warehouse before the end of the month.

Costco members love their coffee, and the Peet's option is a hot commodity. It's currently on sale for $11.99, but only five of the 2-pound bags can be purchased at a time, Reddit user @Automatic-Hour-9299 alerted on the site.

Other items are also involved in the Members Only Savings event going on until Aug. 29 and currently have limits ranging from two to 10 per member, include electronics, batteries, glasses, razors, mattresses, cereal, snacks, mayonnaise, peanut butter, and more.
