Welcome back to AM Intel, a round-up of mini news bites to kick off the week.
Nantucket to Boston
A little over a year ago, the team behind popular six-year-old Nantucket restaurant the Nautilus announced that the restaurant would expand to Boston’s Seaport District in early 2020. The timeline got stretched out a bit, as restaurant opening timelines often do (especially during a pandemic), but now Liam Mackey, Clinton Terry, and Stephen Bowler are on track to open Nautilus Pier 4 at the waterfront Pier 4 development in Boston in April 2021. At the mixed-use development on the former site of the iconic Anthony’s Pier 4, the new Nautilus will join another restaurant, Woods Hill Pier 4, which opened in late 2019.
The Nautilus’ menu draws from multiple places; expect influences from coastal Asian, Latin, and Mediterranean cuisines, mostly served as tapas-style small plates with a few big “table feasts” such as a whole roasted Peking duck. Executive chef Stephen Marcaurelle, who previously worked with Mackey at the Pearl on Nantucket and Toro in Boston, hails from Tres Gatos in Jamaica Plain. The current Nantucket menu includes dishes such as steamed pork buns; tempura oyster tacos; mushrooms on the plancha; and grilled za’atar-marinated lamb chops.
The new Nautilus will be triple the size of its island sibling and will include private dining space and a patio. Watch Instagram for updates.

- The Lynn location of burger joint R. F. O’Sullivan & Son (151 Central Ave.) is giving out 100 free Thanksgiving turkeys to local families in need today, November 23, at 11 a.m. First come, first served. (No pre-ordering — just show up.) Both locations — Lynn and the original in Somerville — will be closed on Thanksgiving.
- Watertown’s decades-old Deluxe Town Diner is crowdfunding on Gofundme to keep the doors open, with co-owner Don Levy writing that the “pandemic has in big ways adversely impacted our business.” The diner is giving gift cards in return for donations. As of press time, Deluxe Town Diner has raised nearly $100,000.
- Likewise, Cambridge mainstay Paddy’s Lunch is also running a Gofundme campaign to help offset the challenges of the pandemic. “Anything that you can contribute will help keep Paddy’s from permanently closing the doors,” notes the campaign. “Don’t let 86 years of our little bar, our cold beers, our warm friends disappear.” With Cambridge considering a new indoor dining shutdown, Paddy’s Lunch owner Ruth Ryan Allen wrote to the city council last week to describe what a precarious position businesses like Paddy’s are in.
- On that note, Cambridge’s city council meets again tonight, November 23, at 5:30 p.m., and the issue of indoor dining is back on the table. Concerned Cambridge restaurant owners and supporters can email comments to the city council at CityCouncil@CambridgeMA.GOV.
