Popular Atlanta-based food truck Slutty Vegan coming to Alabama Wednesday - AL.com

Birmingham, it’s time to get “sluttified.” After hinting at crossing state lines to Alabama earlier this year, supremely popular vegan food truck “Slutty Vegan” will be in the city on Wednesday, Sept. 30 from 3 to 8 p.m. The truck will be at 2337 Bessemer Road Birmingham, AL 35208. Patrons can text “BAMA” to 678-846-3255 for more details and to sign up for Slutty Vegan’s email and text alert list.

Started by Pinky Cole in 2018, Slutty Vegan boasts a menu of plant-based burgers with provocative names on a vegan Hawaiian bun, such as the “One Night Stand" -- a patty loaded with vegan bacon, vegan cheese, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, and the signature “Slut Sauce” and the “Sloppy Toppy,” a patty loaded with jalapeños, vegan cheese, caramelized onions, lettuce and tomato. Non-burger options include the “Heaux Boy” -- a vegan fried shrimp sandwich tossed in New Orleans style batter and the “PLT,” a sandwich of sweet jerk plantains with lettuce, tomato, topped with slut sauce.

Cole, who works as a casting director on Iyanla Vanzant’s OWN television show “Fix My Life,” started the business out of a commercial kitchen. After a boost of Instagram support from her friend and well-known vegan chef Dymetra Pernell, the burgers quickly became a cult favorite. Instead of posting polished, staged photographs of her food, Cole opted to appeal to the eye and capture people’s first-time reactions to eating the flavor packed, loaded burgers.

“People love surprises—especially surprises around food,” Cole told Atlanta Magazine. "There’s something else they love: “This whole theme for Slutty Vegan had everything to do with sex, being provocative, escorting—dirty mind, clean body.”

The photos and videos exploded over social media as a Cole’s team invited celebrities including Jermaine Dupri, Usher, and Monica to try the burgers.

Slutty Vegan opened its first brick and mortar location in 2019 in Atlanta’s Westview neighborhood. The restaurant debuted to a line wrapped around the building as more than 1,000 people waited for the plant-based favorite.

In addition to the truck, Slutty Vegan now has two locations in Atlanta and a third is set to open.
