Parm Boyz, the Italian American food and cocktail pop up featuring chicken parmesan, is landing with a residency at the Corner Door in Culver City beginning on October 9. Founded by Chris Amirault and Jack Kolack, the main draw here is a tasting of chicken and eggplant parmesan, spaghetti, antipasto, salad, and tiramisu. The duo started popping up a few years ago, drawing a good crowd to multiple visits at Ronan on Melrose Avenue.
The Corner Door in Culver City now has three separate outdoor dining spaces to accommodate the addition of its new menu, which will serve Parm Boyz food from Thursday to Saturday, 5 to 9 p.m. Takeout and delivery of Parm Boyz fare will also be available via Caviar and Postmates for anyone on the Westside craving Italian American comfort fare. The new venture comes with a hat tip from Nick Meyer, who had been the beverage director at Ronan and is now overseeing the operations for Umbrella Hospitality, which operates Lono and Melrose Umbrella Co., as well as the newly opened Umbrella Taco.

- Long Beach really loves its breakfast, evidenced by the numerous morning places like Breakfast Bar and Wide Eyes Open Palms, but 2nd Street has lacked a dedicated breakfast place. Long Beach Post has a story on two bartenders who are hoping to open What’s Crackin’ in the former Thai Gourmet, with an opening scheduled for mid-October. There’s no drink minimum and a ticket gets you free parking in the building’s garage.
- Sad news for Echo Park coffee fans as Vanessa Butler’s Vanilla Black has gone dark this week and may end up closing due to unprecedented challenges that has their “backs against a wall.” Hopefully this week can provide some more clarity on the future of one of LA’s Black-owned coffee shops.
