'Pokémon Go' Raid Update: Popular Battle League Pokémon Occupy Raids - Newsweek

The Raids in Pokémon Go have shifted, but, instead of focusing on a particular type or Legendary, the bosses that occupy these special battles are those most often used in the Pokémon Go Battle League.

For a few days, trainers will have a chance to catch and raise some of the most popular battling Pokémon in the mobile game.

With the Pokémon Go Battle League beginning March 13, here's everything you need to know about this latest Raid Boss update, including when it starts and which Pokémon trainers should focus on first.

With the update, Pokémon like Skarmory and Swampert - popular choices in the Go Battle League - are now appearing in Raids.

Pokémon like Makuhita and Shieldon, whose evolved forms are popular as well, are also appearing in lower level Raids to make it easier for trainers to get these powerful partners.

There are three Level 5 Raids that will appear over the next few days, including Registeel, Cresselia and Thundurus, who made its Pokémon Go debut last week.

POKEMON TO FOCUS ON DURING THE EVENT

While the Pokémon featured in the Raids are all helpful in some way, there are a few that trainers may want to focus on battling and catching to increase their odds of getting one with great IVs.

Fighting-type Pokémon are the best offensive typing in Pokémon Go, dealing super effective or neutral damage to many of the most popular Pokémon trainers bring into battle.

Hariyama (Makuhita - Level 1 Raids) and Machamp (Level 3 Raids) are great options for bolstering your Pokémon Go Battle League team. They are super effective against popular Pokémon like Steelix, Shieldon and Probopass and are neutral against Skarmory.

While they have trouble with Flying and Fairy types, Machamp can learn Heavy Slam and Rock Slide to help take them down, while Hariyama has Bullet Punch and Heavy Slam to combat its weaknesses.

Players have also begun bringing some of the Starter Pokémon into online battles. Swampert has become one of the most popular with his great defensive typing (only weak to Grass attacks) and offensive moves. However, with its Community Day behind us, having the powerful charged attack, Hydro Cannon is not currently available. Despite this, Swampert is a strong Pokémon to potentially capture.
