Wylie High School mourns popular student found dead in his home - The Dallas Morning News

An 18-year-old Wylie High School student was found dead in his home Wednesday morning, according to Murphy police.

Azaan Abdellatif, a popular student who was an all-district player on the football team, ran track and was a member of the wrestling team, did not wake up for school Wednesday morning. Family members said he had last been seen between 11 p.m. and midnight Tuesday, according to KXAS-TV (NBC5).

A cause of death has not been determined, but foul place is not suspected, Murphy police said.

The school district released a statement Wednesday mourning his death.

Yes, the Wylie High family in is shock. He was a very popular and well liked young man, played on three athletic teams and was in several organizations. We don’t have any other details regarding his passing," the statement read.

Abdellatif’s death shook his campus, according to KTVT-TV (Channel 11).

“A lot of people left. My history class was completely gone,” student Avery Bailey told the station.

“Everyone knew him,” student Jackson Reffitt told KTVT. “The cafeteria today had 3,000 kids in there. It was dead silent. It was so quiet. It was so weird. The hallways. You could hear people crying in different rooms.”
