Players have many choices when selecting villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. With 393 different villager options, fans will likely find their island homes full to capacity in a very short amount of time. There are many of different species to pick from and each have their own personalities and preferences. However, not all villagers in Animal Crossing are a popular as Raymond the cat or Marshall the squirrel. In fact, there are some New Horizons villagers so unremarkable or undesirable players may not even know they exist until stumbling across them on a Mystery Island during an adventure.
Clyde the horse was Animal Crossing's least popular villager as of October of 2020 according to data that was provided by Blue Planet Aquarium. Clyde is an unfortunate mixture of poor personality, bad coloration, and a difficult species for Animal Crossing villager designers to pull off, as horses seem to have a hit-or-miss issue with designs. Clyde is a Lazy personality type and often creates conflict with Snooty and Jock villagers. He has a habit of being gluttonous, favoring food over activity, making him a bit of a bore to run into on a player's island when doing the daily rounds to converse with the villagers.
Clyde is an aggressive shade of green-yellow and wears a pink-and-blue plaid shirt that clashes badly with his body color. He has eyes that don't open, giving him a dull set of expressions when players interact with him. Compared to Animal Crossing's Julian the unicorn, whose sky blue body and galactic sweater make him a colorful addition to a player's town, Clyde is an eyesore many players would rather avoid having wandering their island.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons Fans Don't Like Clyde
However, despite the lacking popularity shown for Clyde on different online polls, it appears the garish horse grows on players once he joins their town, according to players on Reddit. His questionable conversations and socially inappropriate comments can create interesting interactions and have even endeared Clyde to players who have been stuck with him for a span of time. Most players are simply waiting for Clyde to leave, but discover he can provide a good laugh to those who have the misfortune of housing him.
While Clyde is unlikely to become a fan favorite underdog for Animal Crossing players any time toon, it is good to know that those who have accidentally acquired him will have a few things to look forward to during his stay on their island. However, with much better alternative options, it is likely players will swap Clyde out for more popular choices when building up their Animal Crossing: New Horizons villager population as soon as they get the chance.
