Visits to popular markets to be restricted based on the last digit of your IC number - Gov.sg

From 22 April 2020, further measures will be taken to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19 in Singapore, especially in crowded areas. The National Environment Agency (NEA) will implement new measures to reduce crowding in 4 popular markets, where entry to the markets will be based on the last digit of your NRIC number or FIN.

Crowd control at these 4 popular markets

📍 Blk 104/105 Yishun Ring Road (Chong Pang Market & Food Centre)
📍 Geylang Serai Market
📍 Block 20 / 21 Marsiling Lane
📍 Block 505 Jurong West Street 52

Here’s what you need to know before going to any of the popular markets:

  • If your NRIC ends with an even number (0, 2, 4, 6, 8), you are only allowed entry on even dates of the month.
  • If your NRIC ends with an odd number (1, 3, 5, 7, 9), you can only visit the markets on odd dates of the month.

For example, if tomorrow is 23rd April, it is an odd date. So you can only visit the 4 markets if your NRIC/FIN number ends with an odd digit (1, 3, 5, 7, 9).

If your NRIC/FIN number ends with an even digit (0, 2, 4, 6, 8), please go on 24th April or any other even date instead.

Please remember:

  • Only visit the markets on the date you are allowed entry
  • Plan visits on weekdays, or during the non-peak hours. Check estimated peak hours and queue situation at these markets: https://www.nea.gov.sg/our-services/hawker-management/announcements
  • Bring a photo ID which shows your NRIC/FIN number for verification at the markets
  • Go alone, not in groups
    • Wear a mask while outside at all times
    • Practice safe distancing by standing at least 1 metre apart from others

For patrons who require assistance with marketing (eg. elderly and persons with disability)

Only one other accompanying member in the same household or foreign domestic worker (FDW) is allowed to assist them in their market visits.

However, either the main patron or the accompanying member’s identification numbers (NRIC or FIN) must meet the odd or even date entry restriction, in order to enter the market.

The elderly are highly encouraged to avoid visiting markets, especially during peak hours, and to seek help for their marketing needs.

The above measures will help reduce the crowding and queues at these popular markets, especially on weekends. Similar access restrictions may be introduced in other wet markets, where crowding is observed.
