Popular martial arts school in Palm Harbor keeps on kicking during pandemic - ABC Action News

PALM HARBOR, Fla. -- Level 10 Martial Arts College in Palm Harbor, led by Master James Theros, keeps on kicking during the coronavirus pandemic thanks to hi-tech twists and loving students.

For the past 25 years, Theros has run the college in Palm Harbor.

There’s still lot of classic kicks, punches and high-flying moves that would make the Karate Kid proud.

But these days, as the school fights to stay open during the coronavirus pandemic, there’s a lot of Zoom, too.

“When I heard they had green screen, I was sold,” says Theros.

The school has kept its staff and most of its students thanks to embracing technology with same gusto it embraces karate.

Thanks to some clever online purchases, Theros set up a makeshift production studio, with a full green-screen backdrop, cameras, even someone helping with all the tech.

The good-nature’s Theros has fun with various Zoom backgrounds, whether it’s a classic dojo or a playful beach setting.

“What we’re hearing from parents is that we’re giving kids a sense of normalcy,” says Theros. “They need that, and so do we.”

The kids love it so much, they recently surprised Master Theros will a drive-by parade at the studio, holding signs reading “We Miss You!”

“It was very heartwarming,” Theros says.
