As 2022 quickly approaches, so does a year of new trending baby names. From, “Bear” to “Cosmo” to “Rhythm,” unique names may be in store.

To help make sense of some of the trends, Nameberry put together a list sorted into 10 categories.

The first category included playful names.

“After two years of turbulence, the new parents of 2022 will be drawn to light, bright, playful baby names with a strong element of fun,” the website read.

Names like “Bear,” “Birdie,” “Coco,” “Honey,” “Lucky,” “Pixie” and “Ziggy” made this list.

Next up were nature names like “Coast,” “Prairie,” “Dune,” “Ridge” “Woods” and Sequoia.”

“We expect to see beachy baby names get a boost, especially in the wake of the hit HBO series The White Lotus, set in an idyllic Hawaiian island resort,” Nameberry wrote.

The third category also referenced a TV show, Bridgerton to be exact.

“We’ve already seen Bridgerton names from Daphne to Hyacinth rising rapidly up the Nameberry charts — reflecting a big increase in attention from our visitors. Regency-era baby names like Euphemia have also seen a jump in views, prompted by a renewed interest in all things lacy and lavish,” the website wrote.

Some Bridgerton-inspired names include, “Albion,” “Benedict,” “Cressida” “Prudence,” and “Marina.”

The next category includes names that are more gender fluid.

“With society’s increasing openness to gender fluidity as a concept and an identity, it’s no surprise that we’re starting to see it manifesting in baby name trends too,” Namesberry wrote.

Names Ending in “S” are also expected to trend next year.

“Particularly trendy categories for S ending names right now include snappy surnames like Banks and Wells, cool vintage names from Lois to Ignatius, and ancient and mythical names like Atlas, Emrys and Osiris. But we’ll be watching out for this trend across the style and gender spectrum,” the website read.

Retro nostalgic names are also expected to make a comeback with “Betty,” “Bobby,” “Nellie,” “Ned” and “Sally” on this list.

Punchy “R” names like “Rhodes,” “Row,” “Rio,” “Rue,” “Revel,” “Riot” and “Rogue” are expected to trend in 2022 as well.

“This is a trend that lends itself particularly well to the middle slot, where short, simple names like Ann, Rose, James and John have long been favored by parents due to their great flow and grounded feel,” the website read.

The last category predicted that chic, European names will be popular.
