Ox + Tiger, the popular pop-up known for merging Filipino and Japanese flavors, has some big news, though at this point it’s only willing to tease the announcement. Chef-owners EJ Macayan and Hitomi Wada appear to have the keys to a permanent restaurant space that is soft opening this weekend on September 25 and 26. But beyond that, details are scant, with no specifics on the menu or location. Stay tuned for lechon and katsu details.

- The Flour + Water group is tossing around some fresh pasta concepts, as the SF Chronicle reported first. The original Flour + Water on Harrison is closing for renovations on October 2, so get those last pasta tasting menus while you can. Central Kitchen on 20th Street is officially over and done, which shouldn’t be a shock, given that it’s been repurposed as a pasta shop for most of the pandemic. But now it’s being replaced by Penny Roma, another new pasta spot, which might be more casual, so they say. Penny Roma opens in mid-October; stay tuned for the saucy reveal.
- Boulevard is reopening after a lengthy pandemic closure on September 29, the SF Chronicle reported first. After receiving $5 million from the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Restaurant Revitalization Fund — one of the top 10 restaurants to receive funding in San Francisco — chef Nancy Oakes had enough budget to hire acclaimed designer Ken Fulk, who is currently redoing the Art Nouveau interiors. Check out the fresh menus, with three courses for $89, four courses for $115, and a la carte options in the new bar and lounge, alongside a cocktail list from veteran barman Greg Lindgren.
- DoorDash is expanding booze delivery, according to the Verge. Before the pandemic, it was only delivering alcohol in California, but it’s now expanding to 20 more states. Users can tap over to the alcohol tab on the app to browse “a wide selection of drinks from restaurants, grocery stores, local retailers, and convenience stores,” per a company statement. The bitter irony is that you won’t be able to order from our local bars that don’t serve food, at least not in California, according to the latest legislation that completely cut them out.
- Dreamforce returns to downtown SoMa this week, running from September 21 to 23. But it’s not the usual sidewalk surge of tech workers wearing backpacks, as the biggest conference of the year in San Francisco has been seriously downsized. Once pulling in 170,000 attendees, it’s now down to “hundreds,” CBS SF Bay Area reports. Still, Will Smith, Jane Fonda, and the Foo Fighters are going to be kicking it, so if you happen to be downtown, here’s where to eat and drink in SoMa.
- And while it might feel like the past year and a half never happened, why yes, the holidays are almost here. And never least, Miracle, that sometimes raucous, always kitsch-ed out cocktail bar pop-up, is sleighing back into town. Pacific Cocktail Haven will be hosting as per usual, from November 22 to December 31. The Yippie Ki Yay Mother F****r! cocktail is back, and there’s a new White Russian Christmas and Yule Log Grog. Start airing out your ugliest sweater.
