Netflix has had several great new hit TV shows this year, including programs like Firefly Lane, Behind Her Eyes and Jenni Rivera: Mariaposa de Barrio. But perhaps none of those series had quite the start that Who Killed Sara? has had so far—and it’s still pretty early in the show’s run.
That success is apparent in this week’s rankings for the most popular shows on Netflix in 2021. These rankings are determined based on how well a show charts on Netflix’s Top 10 list each day. The better a show performs each day? The more points it accumulates over the course of its run.
So how are the 2021 charts shaping up this week? As of April 19, these have been the 25 most popular shows on Netflix this year (the bolded selections are newcomers to this list):
- CoComelon - 579 points
- Bridgerton - 438 points
- Ginny & Georgia - 432 points
- iCarly - 359 points
- Firefly Lane - 238 points
- Who Killed Sara? - 226 points
- Behind Her Eyes - 199 points
- Jenni Rivera: Mariposa de Barrio - 195 points
- Good Girls - 181 points
- Henry Danger - 162 points
- Cobra Kai - 157 points
- Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer - 153 points
- Fate: The Winx Saga - 136 points
- Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel - 133 points

I just got back from vacation, so I haven’t had a chance to update the list since April 3. And since then, several shows have moved on and off the list. Both The Lost Pirate Kingdom and Big Time Rush actually had brief stints on the yearly charts. But each of those shows fell by the wayside as three other shows catapulted onto the list.
The most successful newcomer has been The Serpent, a program about the conman and murderer Charles Sobhraj. The crime series had four showings in the #2 position on the daily charts and six appearances in the #3 slot. In fact, today marked the 17th consecutive appearance for The Serpent, which means we’ll likely continue to see the program rise up the yearly charts.
The other new additions were This is a Robbert: The World’s Biggest Art Heist and Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. The former film, a true crime documentary about a massive art heist, has now enjoyed 12 consecutive days on the Top 10 charts. But that streak is eclipsed by the children’s program Miraculous, which just completed its 31st consecutive appearance, and its 35th showing overall in 2021. Only 20 shows have spent more time on the Top 10 charts in the history of Netflix.
The biggest jump this week belongs to Who Killed Sara?, which became just the seventh show ever to spend 13 consecutive days in the #1 position on Netflix’s daily Top 10 rankings—a feat programs like Bridgerton, The Crown and Dead to Me have not even been able to accomplish. Not only is Who Killed Sara?’s total of 226 points good enough for sixth place on the 2021 rankings, but it’s also enough to rank 25th on the all-time Top 10 charts.
Beyond that, the rest of the Top 10 remains unchanged. However, it is worth noting that Ginny & Georgia—the show that eclipsed Tiger King to own the longest #1 streak ever on Netflix—has added 71 points to its score since the previous article, and just captured its 54th consecutive appearance on the Top 10 charts. The program now sits with six points of capturing Bridgerton in the second-place position.
There were four total casualties this week. As previously mentioned, both The Lost Pirate Kingdom (which currently has 71 points) and Big Time Rush (67 points) were booted. In addition, Country Comfort (60 points) and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (60 points as well) were cut out.
These rankings will continue to be updated weekly, so stay tuned next week to see which shows have moved up and down the list.
