Cleveland Browns resurgence has fans buzzing: 20 most popular Browns Facebook posts of 2020 - cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- For the first time in what feels like forever, the Browns have fans in Cleveland excited.

One prime example of that is the cleveland.com Facebook page, where fans have shown their love for the Browns and their standout season through their engagement on Browns-centric posts to the platform.

From photos, to fan polls, to news, to win celebrations, Browns posts are certainly some of the most popular on the Facebook page, so let’s take a look at which were the most popular in 2020.

Top Browns posts of 2020 on cleveland.com’s Facebook page

Data is based on most likes, comments and shares from a CrowdTangle search as of Dec. 15.

No. 1: Browns and Bengals come together in unity

With discussions of kneeling and standing for the national anthem in the wake of a summer filled with protests for social justice, the Browns and the Cincinnati Bengals decided to stand together to show unity before their Sept. 17 game.

The moment galvanized both the teams and fans around the country, as more than 21,000 people reacted to this post on Facebook.

No. 2: Should Clay Matthews Jr. be elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame?

Despite the success of the current Browns, a former Brown took a very high spot in this ranking.

Clay Matthews Jr. is once again on the initial ballot for the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s next class and fans made their voices heard, most of which are pushing for No. 57 to be enshrined in Canton.

The post garnered nearly 15,000 reactions, 13,000 of which responded “yes” to the prompted poll question.

No. 3 Grading Baker Mayfield’s performance in win over Washington Football Team

Baker Mayfield’s performance against Washington wasn’t the best of his 2020 season, but it was certainly a sign of what was to come from the Browns quarterback.

Mayfield did enough in Cleveland’s win over the Washington Football Team to get a passing grade from over 10,000 fans on Facebook.

No. 4: Party like it’s 1994, Browns fans

With the win over the Indianapolis Colts at FirstEnergy Stadium in October, the Browns moved to 4-1.

The last time that happened, of course, was 1994, which will remain a theme throughout these posts...

No. 5: Kevin Stefanski Appreciation

The Browns’ hiring of Kevin Stefanski was met with equal parts enthusiasm and trepidation in January. As 2020 has moved along, however, it’s obvious the coach has won over many fans in Cleveland.

With an 8-3 record at the time, Stefanski was shown a great deal of appreciation for his work with the Browns. Perhaps, finally, Cleveland has a head coach they can stick with for a while.

No. 6: A big win in Big D

It was a wild, wild win in the wild, wild West for the Browns, as they beat the Dallas Cowboys, 49-38.

You remember this game: Jarvis Landry’s touchdown heave to Odell Beckham Jr., Beckham’s game-clinching, mind-bending run to the end zone, Dak Prescott’s 502 yards passing on Cleveland’s defense.

That game might have been the one to set the tone for what this 2020 Browns team would be.

No. 7: Baker brings back Browns to beat Bengals

The first pass of the game featured Mayfield getting intercepted and Beckham Jr. tearing his ACL. After that, Mayfield was electric, throwing for 297 yards and five touchdowns, including a game-winner in the waning seconds to Donovan Peoples-Jones in the back of the end zone.

The Browns moved to 5-2 with a sweep over their in-state rivals.

No. 8: A midseason evaluation

At the midpoint of the 2020 season, the Browns got a bye week.

Though they ended the first half with a loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, fans were generally pleased with the team’s 5-3 mark halfway through.

No. 9: Mayfield is fine with losing fans who didn’t support his initial decision

During a summer of unrest, Mayfield decided -- initially -- that he would kneel in solidarity with his teammates for the national anthem.

It was a divisive decision from Mayfield, who cared little if he lost fans for the gesture. Mayfield later said he changed his mind and would stand for the anthem.

No. 10: Another good day for Mayfield

After a big win over the Indianapolis Colts, fans were back to give Mayfield a passing grade for his performance.

Though the second half was a bit difficult for the offense, he did enough to move the team to 4-1.

No. 11: Callie Brownson makes history

With Cleveland tight ends coach Drew Petzing unable to make it to Jacksonville, Fla., for the Browns’ tilt against the Jaguars, Browns Chief of Staff Callie Brownson stepped in and made some history.

Coaching the tight ends, Brownson became the first woman to coach a position group in an NFL regular-season game. The gear she wore for the game was put on display at the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

No. 12: Titanic win in Tennessee

Despite their underdog status while facing the Titans in Tennessee, the Browns got off to a rip-roaring, 38-7 start, essentially putting the game away by halftime.

The win proved to skeptical Browns fans, and perhaps NFL fans all over the country, that Cleveland could compete with anyone.

No. 13: First of a few back-to-back Browns wins

After beating Joe Burrow and the Bengals on Thursday Night Football, the Browns beat another former Ohio State Buckeye in Dwayne Haskins, taking down the Washington Football Team to move to 2-1 for the season.

No. 14: It’s been 13 years...

The Browns went 10-6 in 2007, somehow missing the playoffs.

Then went more than 10 years of losing seasons in Cleveland until, finally, the 2020 Browns put an end to the streak.

Their win over Tennessee propelled the Browns to 9-3, ensuring they could finish no worse than 9-7.

No. 15: More on Mayfield and national anthem

As evidenced by the previous post regarding Mayfield’s decision on what to do during the season-opening national anthem, the issue was certainly a divisive one.

Mayfield ended up reversing course on plans to kneel, deciding instead to stand with his teammates.

No. 16: Welcome back, Myles

After missing the final six games of the 2019 season, Myles Garrett was reinstated for the 2020 season in January.

Garrett’s suspension following his misguided helmet swing against Mason Rudolph of the Steelers arguably derailed what was left of the 2019 season for the Browns and fans were more than ready to welcome back No. 95.

No. 17: Another back-to-back Browns win

It was a wet, rainy affair, as many games in Cleveland were during 2020, but the Browns eeked out a victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, thanks in large part to a pick-six by linebacker Sione Takitaki, shown below.

No. 18: Another win!

The week before the win above, the Browns moved to 6-3 after the bye week with a win over the Houston Texans.

As you can see, Garrett was feeling it, helping the Browns defense to thwart Texans QB Deshaun Watson.

No. 19: Kareem Hunt living a Browns fan’s dream

A Cleveland native, Kareem Hunt is loving the opportunity to play for his hometown Browns.

Having grown up a Browns fan, Hunt is one of the few Browns to understand the rivalry against the Pittsburgh Steelers on a lifetime level.

Though the Browns lost the first game to Pittsburgh, Hunt will certainly be looking to beat the Steelers and renew this rivalry in the regular season finale.

No. 20: Garrett kneels for national anthem

As the Browns opened the season in Baltimore, Md., Garrett, Ronnie Harrison and KhaDarel Hodge knelt for the national anthem.

cleveland.com photographer Joshua Gunter snapped this photo of Garrett, garnering quite an amount of attention on social media.
