Prince Harry Less Popular Than Prince Andrew Among U.K. Boomers - Newsweek

Prince Harry is less popular among British baby boomers than Prince Andrew after a series of bombshells about the royal family.

The Duke of Sussex's popularity with people born between 1946 and 1964 has sunk to 12 percent in a new poll. His uncle, Prince Andrew, is just above on 13 percent, alongside Harry's wife, Meghan Markle, also on 13 percent.

The trio occupied the three bottom spots in a survey that measures the popularity of 15 members of the royal family. The news comes despite allegations that Prince Andrew had sex with a trafficking victim of the convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew denies the allegations.

British pollster YouGov conducts rolling surveys and grouped its data from April, May and June to produce the rankings, with the most recent sample made up of around 1,500 U.K. adults.

Queen Elizabeth II is the most popular royal among baby boomers, with 82 percent of those surveyed having a positive opinion of her. She is followed by Kate Middleton, on 78 percent.

Princess Anne and Prince William came next, both on 71 percent.

In the poll for adults of all ages, Meghan's popularity increased to 32 percent and Harry's rose to 31 percent. Prince Andrew was far behind on 10 percent.

The three still occupied the bottom three spots on the poll, however. The queen was at No. 1 (76 percent), followed by William (72 percent) and Kate (64 percent).

Harry and Andrew occupy similar roles in the royal family—both were born the "spare" second son with an older brother who was direct heir to the throne. Both served in the military and were deployed to war zones.

The Duke of Sussex appears to be sliding in the YouGov poll, with 45 percent of British adults surveyed saying they liked him in March and 40 percent in April.

Meghan's rating seems to have rallied slightly, however, after scoring 29 percent in April and 31 percent in March, according to the polling company.

Harry's tumble has come during a period of repeated criticisms of his family, starting with the couple's interview with Oprah Winfrey, which was broadcast on March 7.

In May, Harry told the Armchair Expert podcast he had experienced "genetic pain" from his upbringing with Prince Charles.

Later the same month, he accused the royal family of "total neglect" over his pleas for help dealing with the media.

Harry is now writing a memoir, which is due to be published by Penguin Random House at the end of 2022, and is expected to include more details on his disputes with his family.

Other members of the royal family have been markedly less vocal about his comments, with the queen releasing a single statement in response to the couple's Oprah interview.

In a statement issued by Buckingham Palace, she said: "The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately."

William's on-the-record rebuttal to reporters in March was a single sentence: "We are very much not a racist family."

Prince Andrew withdrew from public life in November 2019, just days after giving an interview to the BBC about his former friendship with Epstein, who died in jail in August 2019. The interview sparked a furious backlash.

Asked by the BBC about Virginia Roberts Giuffre's allegation that she was forced to have sex with Andrew in London, New York and the U.S. Virgin Islands, the duke said "absolutely no to all of it."
