Popular Lake Michigan state park announces summer concerts, adventure programs - MLive.com

LUDINGTON, MI – After a year off, summer concerts and adventure programs are back at a popular Lake Michigan state park.

The Friends of the Ludington State Park announced over the weekend that its entertainment programs are back after a hiatus in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The lineup includes returning and new musical acts along with wildlife presenters.

All shows are free and start at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Shows known to draw large crowds will be at the park’s Lake Michigan Beach House while others will be at the traditional forested amphitheater, which is south of the footbridge over the Sable River.

Here’s the lineup:

  • Wednesday, June 23: Rupert Wates, melodic folk music, at Lake Michigan Beach House
  • Saturday, June 26: Lee Murdock, “Great Lakes Ships that Go Down and Ships that Come In,” at Lake Michigan Beach House
  • Wednesday, June 30: Mike Lenich, acoustic folk, at the amphitheater
  • Saturday, July 3: Third Coast Gypsy Jazz at Lake Michigan Beach House
  • Wednesday, July 7: Awesome Distraction, popular Americana, at the amphitheater
  • Saturday, July 10: Kitty Donohue, singer-songwriter, at Lake Michigan Beach House
  • Wednesday, July 14: Mark Dvorack, “Woody Guthrie’s American Song Program,” at Lake Michigan Beach House
  • Saturday, July 17: Road Less Traveled, folk originals and covers, at the amphitheater
  • Wednesday, July 21: Outdoor Discovery Center, “Live Birds of Prey,” at the amphitheater
  • Wednesday, July 28: Canopy Space, alternative folk originals and covers, at the amphitheater
  • Wednesday, Aug. 4: Chloe Kimes and Band at Lake Michigan Beach House
  • Saturday, Aug. 7: Hicks with Picks, “Yooperbilly” cover band, at the amphitheater
  • Wednesday, Aug. 11: Shipski Magic Show, at the amphitheater
  • Saturday, Aug. 14: Salt City Dixie Jazz Band, swing, blues, polkas and more, at the amphitheater
  • Saturday, Aug. 21: Uneven Ground, Celtic music, at the amphitheater
  • Saturday, Aug. 28: Nature Center of Williamston’s Michigan Reptiles and Amphibians, at Lake Michigan Beach house (live display 2-5 p.m. with the presentation at 7 p.m.)

The series is curated by park interpreter Alan Wernette and offerings are designed to entertain campers, locals and park visitors.

While the programs are free, the Friends of Ludington State Park accept donations during each performance to help offset costs. Donations can also be made online at friendsofludingtonstatepark.org. This year’s programs are also supported by funding provided by the Community Foundation of Mason County Wish List.

Ludington State Park is at 8800 M-116 in Ludington, Mason County.
