Closures have been scheduled on Colorado's popular Interstate 70 through Glenwood Canyon to repair damaged areas caused by the Grizzly Creek fire in late 2020, according to Colorado Department of Transportation.
Helicopter operations will require traffic holds on a stretch of I-70 periodically from April 12 to April 19, and again on April 21 and 22 if needed.
I-70 is popular for those heading into the mountains to destinations such as several ski resorts, Hanging Lake, and more.
Power poles are being replaced in Glenwood Canyon that were burned in the fire. The operations on April 21 will have helicopters assisting in rockfall fencing, which could continue on April 22 if needed, the transportation department said.
When the helicopter is airborne, traffic stops on Interstate 70 will be required for eastbound and westbound traffic. The traffic holds are expected to last up to 30 minutes.
Crews with Rock Solid Solutions have been working to install the rockfall barriers and fencing since December 2020. The fencing and barriers help protect against rockfall from the damage caused by the Grizzly Creek fire.

TRAVEL IMPACTS DURING THE WEEK OF APRIL 12
On Wednesday, April 14, 15-minute traffic stops will take place to allow four power poles to be installed. Motorists should expect four traffic stops, taking place between 9:00 AM and 5 PM.
TRAVEL IMPACTS DURING THE WEEK OF APRIL 19
On Wednesday, April 21, 30-minute traffic stops will begin at 9:00 AM. The closures are for westbound traffic at mile marker 123.95 east of the Hanging Lake Tunnel bore and a rolling stop will be in place for eastbound traffic. Thirty-minute traffic stops may continue on Thursday, April 22, if necessary to complete work.
Continuing project impacts Monday - Friday: A westbound right lane closure from mile markers 119 to 125 in place, west of the Hanging Lake Tunnel bore, for fence work on the slopes above I-70.
