You've probably heard about or bought meal plan kits in the last few years, especially during the pandemic. But sales are plummeting, and another food is in some ways taking its place in everyone's carts.
And it's all because of a popular summer treat that is fun to make—S'mores. (And where can you get the item everyone is buying right now? This Is the Best Supermarket in America, New Survey Says.)
Costco is selling quite a few versions of the beloved campfire dessert, and its popularity is expected to stay high this year, too.
"While the environment continues to change, … I think [s'mores] is an occasion that consumers are really going to lean into throughout the summer," Bill Maclean, Hershey's senior marketing director, said, per Food Dive. "In fact, the data would suggest [consumers will] maybe even embrace it more than last year."

"Throughout the entire year, seasons was one of the key drivers as consumers really wanted the comfort and the normalcy associated with seasonal traditions and rituals at a time when Covid uprooted their lives," Hershey CEO Michele Buck said in an interview in February on CNBC's "Closing Bell."
Thanks to family movie nights and backyard on fires, the company found that in areas with a higher number of COVID-19 cases, sales of its chocolates were up 40-50%.
Normally the chocolate company doesn't add on to the summer supply until after the Easter holiday is over, Food Dive says. But since the Milk Chocolate bars brought in over $1.6 billion in 2020 (which is $70 million more than the year before), they started early.
No one wants to head to the chocolate aisle and find it empty, and thanks to Hershey's analysis about COVID trends, there likely won't be a shortage of Milk Chocolate bars anytime soon.
