Popular N.J. ice skating rink to close after almost 60 years, reports say - NJ.com

Ocean Ice Palace, the popular ice skating rink in Brick Township, will close after nearly 60 years of business, according to two reports.

The owners of Ocean Ice Palace announced in a Facebook post on Tuesday the rink would close by the end of July, according to Patch and the Asbury Park Press.

The Facebook post, however, is no longer available and has been either deleted or removed from the public to see.

A woman who answered the phone Wednesday at Ocean Ice Palace declined to comment, and repeated calls and emails went unanswered on Thursday.

According to the reports, the Facebook post said:

“After almost 60 years of Family Owned & Operated businesses, Ocean Ice Palace & Ocean Hockey Supply will be closing their doors at the end of this month. We are extremely thankful to all the friends who have become family and customers who have become friends over the years. The decision was not made lightly and certainly not without being given much thought.”

Ocean Ice Palace is located at 197 Chambers Bridge Rd. in Brick Township. A pro shop also is part of the business and inside the building.

The rink has hosted events for youth and adult hockey leagues, tournaments, lessons, camps and public skating sessions since it was built in 1962.
