'Manifest' Could Become Netflix's Most Popular Show Ever - Forbes

Something unprecedented is happening over on Netflix right now. Manifest is in the midst of a historic run on the Top 10 charts, as the program just completed its 23rd consecutive day in the #1 position—a feat only two other shows have accomplished: Ginny & Georgia and Tiger King.

And as the show inches closer and closer to claiming the best streak ever, we must ask: is Manifest the most popular series on Netflix...ever?

The world’s biggest streaming service has produced several shows over the past few years that were mega-hits—but it’s difficult to determine exactly which one was the most popular. The streaming service claims that Bridgerton had a record 82 million views in its first 28 days. But Bridgerton was only able to overtake The Witcher’s previous record of 76 million views because Netflix’s subscriber base had grown so exponentially during the coronavirus pandemic.

Then we have to consider the Top 10 charts. Last year, I formed a points-based system that allowed me to rank every show’s popularity based on their Top 10 placements each day (here are the 2021 rankings, in case you’re curious). And while this system doesn’t give us hard numbers, it does let us know which shows have been the most consistently popular on Netflix.

And according to those charts, Bridgerton isn’t #1. The top show is either CoComelon (a children’s show that just can’t stop breaking Netflix records), The Queen’s Gambit (which has earned the most points of any adult-targeted program), or Ginny & Georgia (which currently owns the best first place streak ever with 29 consecutive days).

In fact, here are the 25 most popular shows ever according to my ranking system:

  1. CoComelon - 1,835 points
  2. The Queen’s Gambit - 621 points
  3. Bridgerton - 508 points
  4. Ginny & Georgia - 465 points
  5. Cobra Kai - 456 points
  6. The Office - 453 points
  7. Who Killed Sara? - 390 points
  8. Tiger King - 387 points
  9. Ozark - 377 points
  10. Lucifer - 369 points
  11. iCarly - 359 points
  12. Outer Banks - 356 points
  13. Avatar: The Last Airbender - 339 points
  14. The Umbrella Academy - 320 points
  15. Unsolved Mysteries - 299 points
  16. Love is Blind - 299 points
  17. Virgin River - 269 points
  18. All American - 266 points
  19. The Crown - 264 points
  20. Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich - 261 points
  21. Schitt’s Creek - 256 points
  22. Manifest - 248 points
  23. Space Force - 248 points
  24. The Haunting of Bly Manor - 241 points
  25. Firefly Lane - 238 points

And as you’ll see there: Manifest is already in the top 25. Which is pretty crazy for a show that’s only been a member of the Top 10 charts for 25 days. So if Manifest can climb past The Queen’s Gambit on these rankings? And if the show can top Ginny & Georgia’s record 29-day run in first place? Then a case could be made for Manifest being Netflix’s most popular show of the Top 10 era.

The craziest part of it all? Manifest isn’t even a Netflix-produced show—which makes this story all the more interesting.

Because only one other third party show has had a first place streak for at least seven days: Lucifer (which had two different seven-day streaks, strangely enough). And that was a show that was cancelled by its original network (Fox) and picked up by Netflix afterwards.

And Manifest is now in a similar situation. The beloved show was cancelled by NBC after three seasons, and is currently looking for a new home. And while Netflix recently passed on producing a fourth season, the cult show’s historic run on the Top 10 charts could change that. So it’ll be fascinating to watch Manifest over the next few weeks to see if the show can power its way back to life.
