These are New Jersey’s 5 most popular Valentine’s Day restaurants - NJ.com

Valentine’s Day is, depending on who you ask, either the most romantic holiday of the year or the most contrived. But however you feel about Feb. 14, it is unquestionably one of the biggest date nights of the year, and that means packed restaurants with lovebirds.

But which New Jersey restaurants are most popular on Valentine’s Day? We talked to popular restaurant reservation site OpenTable to find out.

Nothing says romance like dinner at the mall, right? While you may have taken dates to the Garden State Plaza or Cherry Hill Mall food court back in high school, now you’re ready to move up to the big leagues. The Capital Grille is a chain of steakhouses that also specialize in seafood and wine, all served in swanky spaces featuring cushy leather booths, dim lighting and wood paneling.

Oysters on the half shell? They’re an aphrodisiac, after all, or go all out with the shellfish platter featuring lobster and shrimp cocktail as well. But the star of the show at Capital Grille, no matter which location you go to, is unquestionably the steak. Filet mignon, bone-in ribeye, New York strip, tenderloin and porterhouse cuts are all on the menu. But go for the wagyu strip if you’re really trying to impress your sweetie, was the No. 3 steak on our list of most expensive steaks in New Jersey.

Italian food is New Jersey’s love language. So it’s no surprise that people are flocking on Valentine’s Day to this Italian restaurant known for its massive portions, delectable pasta and gargantuan plates of chicken parmesan. Carmine’s has two locations in Manhattan, as well as one in Washington, D.C., Las Vegas and even in the Bahamas. But going to Carmine’s in Atlantic City for Valentine’s Day? That’s amore.

While the giant portion size may be challenging for just two people, the quality is unquestionable. Love is a gamble. The casinos in Atlantic City are, literally, a gamble. But the food at Carmine’s is a safe bet.

I mean, that view. There’s nothing more romantic than a night time view of the Manhattan skyline, is there? And the end of a pier into the Hudson River is about as good a place as any to look at it. That’s right, New York, we even have you beat on views of your own city.

It was named one of the best brunch restaurants in the United States last year, but who is going out for Valentine’s Day brunch? You’re heading here for dinner, and dining on crunchy coconut shrimp, black and blue swordfish, herb-crusted ribs and chocolate lava cake. Chart House is a chain with 26 locations throughout the country, including one in Atlantic City, but this is the busiest one in the state on Valentine’s.

What has this lesson taught us? Valentine’s Day diners like steaks and skylines. Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in Weehawken has both! It’s situated just two piers south of Chart House, and while the view isn’t quite as good (it’s not as far out on the water) the steaks are better.

Ruth’s Chris got its start in New Orleans but now has more than 100 locations across the United States, Canada and Mexico, including six in New Jersey. The porterhouse for two is 40 ounces of meaty romantic perfection, though they have ribeyes, filets, strips and chops if you and your boo have different steak preferences. We weren’t super impressed with their bone-in filet when we did our expensive steak rankings, unfortunately.

Another chain with serious romantic reservations, Seasons 52 has four different locations scattered throughout New Jersey. The restaurant specializes in wine, with countless different types to chose from — they even have flights! — so impress your Valentine date by knowing what kind of vino they prefer.

With low-key options like avocado toast and flatbreads to fancier options like lump crab cakes and ahi tuna tartare, Seasons 52 is perfect for ballin’ on a budget. the cedar plank-roasted salmon, vegetable gnocchi and basil-ricotta chicken all sound tasty enough to wow your date.
