If you’ve ever wondered just how popular that show you are watching on Netflix is, well, the Los Gatos-based streaming TV giant is now making that easier to find out.

Netflix has unveiled a new feature to its platform that will let viewers know what are the 10 most-popular TV shows and movies on the streaming video service on a given day. When a person goes to their Netflix queue, they can now see a category showing what are the top 10 most-popular video titles currently available in the United States, or in whatever country they are watching Netflix.

The top 10 series and films that are streaming on Netflix can also be found under tabs for TV shows and movies, respectively. A title will be considered for the top 10 rankings when a person watches it for at least two minutes in a 24-hour-long period.

Cameron Johnson, Netflix’s director of product innovation, said the purpose of showing people the rankings of the most-popular videos is so that viewers can better spread the word about what shows they have discovered on the service.

“We hope these top 10 lists will help create more of these shared moments, while also helping all of us find something to watch more quickly and easily,” Johnson said, in a blog post announcing the top 10 lists feature.

A show or film in the top 10 list will also have a special badge on its image icon denoting it is one of the 10 most-popular items being viewed on a particular day. The rankings will be updated on a daily basis.

Netflix rolled out the ranking feature in the U.S. and the rest of the world late Monday after initially debuting it in the United Kingdom and Mexico last year.
