Today, Shadow and Bone became the first show this year to spend its first eight days atop the Top 10 charts, and just the fourth show ever to do so. The program’s dominance came during a period when several other shows—such as The Baker and the Beauty and The Circle—are in the midst of epic Netflix runs. But was the performance enough to make the yearly popularity charts?
For those unaware, I track each show’s performance on Netflix to form these yearly charts. Each day, I record where a program ranks on the Top 10. I then assign points accordingly, and track each show’s score over the course of the year.
So what do the 2021 charts look like this week? As of May1, these have been the 25 most popular shows on Netflix this year (the bolded selections are newcomers to this list):
- CoComelon - 664 points
- Ginny & Georgia - 458 points
- Bridgerton - 438 points
- iCarly - 359 points
- Who Killed Sara? - 253 points
- Firefly Lane - 238 points
- Behind Her Eyes - 199 points
- Jenni Rivera: Mariposa de Barrio - 195 points
- Good Girls - 181 points
- Henry Danger - 162 points
- The Serpent - 160 points
- Cobra Kai - 157 points
- Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer - 153 points
- The Circle - 142 points points
- The Baker and the Beauty - 137 points
- Fate: The Winx Saga - 136 points
- Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel - 133 points
- The One - 118 points
- The Irregulars - 112 points

As you can see, Shadow and Bone couldn’t quite make the list this week. But with 80 points under its belt already, you can full expect the series to capture one of the top 20 positions by next Saturday.
Last week, Ginny & Georgia mustered just enough points to squeak past Bridgerton and become the most popular live-action scripted show on Netflix in 2021. And while the beloved mother-daughter dramedy did see its 58-day streak on the Top 10 charts end earlier this week, the show did manage to creep back onto the Top 10 a few more times and stretch its score to 458 points. With that score, Ginny & Georgia managed to pass both Cobra Kai and The Office to officially become the fourth-most popular movie on Netflix during the Top 10 era.
Past that, there wasn’t any significant movement near the top of the list. The best performances from this past week, however, did bring some new movies closer. Both The Circle and The Baker and the Beauty had great weeks on the charts, with the former bringing its yearly total to 142 points, and the latter achieving 137 points. If both shows can keep up their hot streaks, then they’ll be amongst the top ten before long.
We also can’t forget The Serpent, which brought its score to 160 points this past week and quietly inched closer to the year’s top ten list. The show had spent its first 28 days on the charts (just before falling off today), making it just the seventh series to do so in 2021.
The only new addition to the yearly charts this week is Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn, a Nickelodeon program that has now spent its first 19 days on Netflix’s Top 10. While the show has never traveled above the #4 position on the daily charts, it also hasn’t fallen below the #8 spot.
There were three casualties this week. Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir, Murder Among the Mormons and Dad Stop Embarrassing Me! were all tied for 25th place on last week’s charts and couldn’t hold on. And while Dad Stop Embarrassing Me! and Murder Among the Mormons are likely gone for good, there’s a decent chance that Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir—which has moved on and off the daily charts several times in 2021—will make a comeback later this year.
These rankings will continue to be updated weekly, so stay tuned next week to see which shows have moved up and down the list.
