Popular ax-throwing company expanding into N.J., opening soon - NJ.com

Bad Axe Throwing, one of the more popular ax-throwing companies in the United States, is expanding into New Jersey and opening its first location in the state on Memorial Day.

The venue will be at Matawan’s Park Plaza Mall shopping center at 343 Route 34 and will open on Monday, May 31.

“We’re really happy with our future home,” founder and owner Mario Zelaya said. “The location is perfect and we feel will draw from all areas of Northern New Jersey, especially the corporate clients.”

Ax-throwing is an indoor recreational sport that first started in Canada as a backyard activity. It has become more popular in recent years, especially for hosting birthday parties and corporate events. Several companies have opened locations throughout New Jersey the past few years.

Bad Axe Throwing offers walk-in visits, as well as private events where you can book a private lane and coach. A walk-in costs about $27 per hour, and group rates range from $35-$40 per person for two hours.

The company was founded in 2014 in Ontario, Canada. There are now more than 30 locations in the United States and more than 40 worldwide.
