As breweries and bars remain affected by the regional shelter-in-place order, California brewers’ guilds hope to ease the financial burden during the winter months with a curated drink experience at home.
On Friday, the Bay Area Brewers Guild, along with the California Craft Brewers Association and six other regional brewers’ guilds, initiated preorders for tasting boxes full of craft beers from state-wide breweries. It’s part of CA Craft Beer Week that officially runs from Feb. 12 through Feb. 21.
Each box comes with craft beers from multiple breweries around the Bay Area, Sacramento, the Central Coast, Los Angeles County, Inland Empire, Orange County, or San Diego. Customers can select the specific California region they’re interested in online, and select boxes with either eight or 12 mixed beers that are priced at $50 or $70 each (not including shipping fees).
The Bay Area box is priced at $70 and has a total of 12 different beers that include the likes of 21st Amendment Brewery, Original Pattern Brewing Co., Cellarmaker Brewing Co., and East Brother Beer Co., among others.
Here’s a partial list of participating Bay Area breweries:
- Humble Sea Brewing Co.
- 21st Amendment Brewery
- Alvarado Street Brewery
- Barebottle Brewing Co.
- Cellarmaker Brewing Co.
- East Brother Beer Co.
- Fogbelt Brewing Co.
- HenHouse Brewing Co.
- Hop Dogma Brewing Co.
- Narrative Fermentations
- Original Pattern Brewing Co.
- S27 Alehouse & Brewery
CA Craft Beer Week also plans to host a series of virtual events that allow guests to participate in competitions, get educated on beer and food pairings, and get first dibs on special releases.
The main goal for the event is to help support California’s hardest-hit neighborhood breweries, restaurants, bars, and retailers that have continued to struggle amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“It’s vital our industry, community leaders, and those who don’t want their communities to become ghost towns do all they can to save neighborhood businesses,” Joanne Marino, executive director of the Bay Area Brewers Guild, said in a statement. “Most cannot afford to hang on much longer. And once a local brewery closes, that business won’t be coming back.”
