The Dish: Owner of the popular Polpo to open second restaurant in Greenwich - Greenwich Time

Out there… Greenwich restaurateur Ron Rosa, proprietor of the popular Polpo restaurant in Greenwich, is opening a second restaurant in Greenwich called The Lion at the former location of Centro at The Mill in Glenville. The 4,000-square-foot space will be designed by renowned restaurant architect and designer Jay Haverson. It is scheduled to open this summer. Polpo is a big spot for hedge-funders and celebrities, including Mets owner Steven Cohen; Greenwich resident and former Mets COO Jeff Wilpon; LA Dodgers co-owner Todd Boehly; former President Bill Clinton of Chappaqua, N.Y.; and Greenwich residents and TV personalities Judge Judy Sheindlin and Judge Jerry Sheindlin. A native New Yorker, Rosa made his name from his Italian restaurants Campagnola on the Upper East Side and Ecco in Tribeca.

Scene… Greg Kelly, host of “Greg Kelly Reports” on Newsmax TV, and his wife, Judith Grey, were seen having dinner with 710 WOR-AM radio host and Greenwich resident Mark Simone at Tony’s at the JHouse last Saturday night.

Out there… The Bartlett Arboretum & Gardens in Stamford is offering a virtual workshop on “Floral Design: Winter Pallet with Herbs” from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2. Participants will learn to create beautiful fresh arrangements that can be created with flower bouquets purchased at a grocery store. The workshop will be led by master florist Trish O’Sullivan, coordinator of floral design programs at the New York Botanical Garden and one of New York City’s foremost names in floral design. Scene… Moon Restaurant, at the former location of Asiana Café at 130 E. Putnam Ave. in Greenwich, celebrated its grand opening on Thursday night. The new restaurant will serve a diversified menu of Japanese, Thai and Chinese cuisine.

Out there… The Greenwich Historical Society has joined forces with Historic Properties of Greenwich to save the town’s historic properties and slow the fast rate of demolitions, by demonstrating the economic benefits of permanent historic property protection. To kick off the program, a Zoom seminar will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, featuring a panel discussion with Jane Montanaro, executive director of Connecticut Preservation; Debra Mecky, executive director and CEO of the Historical Society; and HPG founders Hillman, Reynolds and Young presenting practical solutions for homeowners to save properties through Historic Property Designation and the economic and environmental benefits of this permanent protection. Scene… Fairfield native Meg Sahagian appeared as a contestant on “Wheel of Fortune” on Thursday night as part of its “Show You The World Week.” Sahagian, a registered yoga instructor, was selected to be a contestant after participating in the show’s virtual auditions.

Out there… The Greenwich Arts Council is featuring a virtual live event from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, as renowned graffiti artist Sen2 Figueroa will unveils the newly painted Grand Piano cover in its Dance Studio. The event will also feature performances by musician and artist Joseph Dermody; Caroline Volkwein from the Bolshoi Ballet Academy; Aidan Buss from the Royal Ballet School; and Yuri Vodolaga, artistic director of the Vodolaga Ballet. The evening, dubbed “Selective Spaces: Art + Music + Dance,” will be live-streamed through Zoom, GAC’s Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. The event is free to GAC members and Friends of GAC.
