Popular Band Kicks Off Newtown Parks & Rec Summer Concert Series - The Newtown Bee

Published: Jul 06, 2021 08:00 AM

With the Newtown Parks & Recreation Spring Carnival at Fairfield Hills serving as backdrop, dozens of people enjoyed a June 24 concert by Keltic Kick.

The first concert in the Thursday Evening Summer Concert Series was performed on the vast athletic field at Fairfield Hills, which was filled with dozens of chairs clustered in front of the performance area. Behind those audience members, additional attendees sat on blankets or took advantage of the open space to stretch their legs. Parents and children played in the grass, while the four-man Keltic Kick played the latest show that entertained with tight musicianship.

The Thursday Series moves to Dickinson Park for the duration of the season, although last week's performance was postponed due to rain. A performance by Goldrush will be rescheduled, according to Newtown Parks & Recreation.

Concerts are at the park's bandshell, which has plenty of open grass for seating. The easiest access to that area of the town park is off Deep Brook Road, just west of the skate park.

Guests will need to provide their own seating for any show. Picnics are welcome, but guests will be expected to carry out their own trash.

A food truck will reportedly be on site for each concert, according to Newtown Parks & Rec.

The all-ages Thursday series will continue with Survivors Swing Band, July 8; the Kathy Thompson Band, July 15; Tales of Joy, July 22; Jake Kulak & The LowDown, July 29; and Head Over Heels, August 5.

Concerts will run from 6:30 to 8 pm. They are being sponsored by Newtown Parks & Recreation and Claris Construction.
