Reality shows are made to help us escape our own realities, and so they are perenially popular. Exactly what's considered entertainment has vagaries, though, and some of them are geographic. Empire Today (the company that has a cartoon Stan Lee doppelganger pitching flooring) has put together the most searched for reality shows by state.
You might expect the Kardashians to karpet the kountry, but they're tops in only the smallest state, Rhode Island. The Real Housewives are in many homes in the United States, with most states preferring their local franchises (Orange County for Californians, Atlanta for Georgians, and Dallas for Texans). But New Yorkers who live on a scary island would much rather watch someplace else, namely Beverly Hills.
Circling the waters of the country is Shark Tank, which is the most popular reality show by search, showing up in the results for six states. The Voice and The Bachelorette predominantly have fans in five and four states, respectively.
Those who want to access reality at any time should consider Hulu's streaming service. It hosts the top five shows on the list (Shark Tank, The Voice, The Bachelorette, Married at First Sight, and MasterChef), as well as a majority of the rest. For original reality shows you can't find elsewhere, Netflix offers Queer Eye, Rhythm + Flow, several versions of Nailed It!, and the new hell that is The Circle where an apartment building's residents communicate and manipulate each other via a voice-controlled social media platform.
