MURPHYSBORO, IL. (WSIL) -- The Knights of Columbus in Murphysboro turn their community dinners into a drive-thru.
Cars lined up Sunday afternoon with people driving in from surrounding towns to help support the organization. The group offers fried chicken, or chicken-and-dumplings, the first Sunday of each month.
Prior to the restrictions due to COVID-19, the dinner had been held as dine-in buffet.
Organizer Garrett Cook says although in-person fundraising is hold, the dinner is still popular and supports local causes.
"It's been a good transition, we're looking forward to getting back indoors at some point, but for the time being it's been very well received," says Cook. "Each time we do a chicken dinner we acknowledge one group, we try to spread it out on social media and say, 'today's tips will go towards,' -- today's going towards our Pro-Life efforts in the area."
The group also holds a Fish Fry dinner the third Friday of each month, which supports fundraising efforts as well.
