Closed during the COVID-19 outbreak, a popular Bossier City fitness center will not reopen.
“After much prayerful reflection, we have made the decision not to re-open the CHRISTUS Louisiana Athletic Clubs. This was an incredibly difficult decision, and one that was not made lightly,” the fitness center announced in a Facebook post Monday.
The club location in Bossier City is located at 2541 Viking Dr. The Shreveport location, at 9425 Healthplex Dr., is also closing permanently.
“If COVID-19 has taught us anything, it’s that the future may not look like the past, and we have to take this opportunity to re-evaluate how we can meet the needs of our community most effectively,” the CHRISTUS Louisiana Athletic Clubs post continued. “As this global pandemic forced us to close the doors of our athletic clubs, we took that time to really consider the needs of the Shreveport and Bossier communities and how we could be of service most effectively. We feel strongly that supportive locations where our neighbors and friends can further their journeys to healthy lifestyles are vital. But we can also see that we are not the only organization who can provide that support, and we must turn our focus to continuing to ensure that our health care facilities remain safe places to give and receive both COVID and non-COVID care.”
While monthly billing was suspended during the Stay at Home order, the club said that it will refund any advanced payments that have already been made.
Other patient care services and physician practices located within the facilities are not impacted by this decision and will continue operations, the club said.
The clubs were operated by CHRISTUS Health Shreveport-Bossier and the Bossier City location featured cardiovascular, strength and free-weight areas, as well as a full-size gymnasium and the area’s only indoor walking/running track.
